The Journey
In June 2025 Oar the Rainbow will be taking on the World’s Toughest Row, a race to row 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Monterey, California to Kauai, Hawaii. Since the first recorded human-powered ocean crossing, fewer than 100 people have successfully rowed across the Pacific Ocean for sport. More than twice that number have made it to Earth’s orbit!
Our team’s crossing will be unsupported, receiving no help from other vessels. We will not have any motors or sails, and will need to carry everything we need to complete a safe and successful crossing. Striving to beat the current world record, our team will be rowing in shifts of 2 hours on and 2 hours off (and sometimes 3 hours on, 3 hours off), 24 hours a day. We anticipate the crossing will take approximately 40 days.
